Our solar panels just finished paying for themselves after seven years, we haven't had an ounce of trouble with them since they were installed with great care by Nova Solar. I still remember talking to this company about their founding originally they began by coming in after much less experienced and capable installers had botched a job. So the early years were spent identifying all the mistakes from traditional solar installs and helps explain the overwhelming positive reviews! From the beginning, the company felt much more straightforward than others we contacted. Nobody used high-pressure sales tactics or fake “limited-time discounts.” The installation crew was excellent too. They worked quietly, stayed organized, and answered questions without sounding annoyed. One afternoon they even paused briefly because our elderly neighbor was backing out of her driveway and they wanted to move equipment out of the way. Small detail, but thoughtful. The final setup looks cleaner than I expected on the roof, and the monitoring app has been easy to use. Still, after meeting the team, things improved quickly. The project manager apologized directly instead of pretending nothing happened, and from there communication stayed consistent. The installation crew worked through some pretty brutal heat and still stayed friendly every day. One technician noticed our outdoor security camera cable hanging loose and secured it while working nearby, which was thoughtful. The whole system has been operating for about three months now with no problems at all. We especially notice the difference during weekends when everyone is home running appliances constantly. Everyone, from the initial contact to get a quote, the site survey, the discussion about the contract details, the periodic updates on the status of project approvals, installation, and activation were friendly and professional. They carefully explained each step in the process and answered all my questions. The installation itself went smoothly, taking less time than expected. The team arrived on time, worked professionally, explained the details of how the system was connected, and what the next steps would be. And boy did they live up to those recommendations !! Nova Solar did an outstanding job from initial quotes, explaining all aspects of the contract, and contacting all agencies for permits and inspections. The installers came on time, did the work efficiently and in very adverse weather conditions...all without any issues. I am very proud of the leadership, the workers and the staff. Nova Solar kept us well informed through each step of the process and we felt the confidence of using this company that truly took care of us. Soon after installation, they also helped me with paperwork to get the rebates/incentives from County, State and Federal governments. Last month, 4 microinverters were not producing electricity in full efficiency due to some manufacturing defect. Nova Solar coordinated with Enphase and replaced all the mal-functioning items with brand new items. I am very pleased with the quality of service and honored to write this review.Posted on Google

Jay Sullivan30 July 2025I had a fantastic experience with Nova Solar, and highly recommend their team. Jake was my project manager, and he had amazing patience with me as I peppered him with MANY questions and requests for quotes for multiple different configurations while we worked on the design. Unlike a few other vendors that I requested quotes from, there was never any pressure from Nova Solar to sign a contract, or push me into more than I needed. Trip was the lead on the installation team and was fantastic. The team showed up on schedule at 6:30am, and was done with my 28-panel installation before noon. Then Trip returned on very short notice a few days later when Fairfax County came out to do the inspection. Once the inspection was completed, Nova Solar sent a wrap-up package with everything I needed with documentation on my system, info on monitoring, SRECs, warranties, and even the documents that I'll need for federal and state tax credits. sirsendu jana29 July 2025After doing endless research in last few years and dealing with numerous installers with huge difference in estimates, we finally went with Nova Solar. Although the single most important reason behind our decision was probably their all-five star reviews on top websites like BBB and Google. I have no regrets, and that's why, I am here to write for them. Whole process was silky-smooth and transparent from the start to end. All the folks we dealt with-at all different stages of the project are awesome. I paid all cash, but I ran out of funds due to some other problem and they put no pressure on me. Now, quality wise, the 9.8 kW system is producing havoc, at least 2-2.5 X than our summer energy use. Super cool looking black panels are hard to miss, as shared by our neighbors. Nova Solar was our solar install pick because of the quick and professional answers to our questions. I communicated directly with technical people - there are no sales folks. Once we signed the contract, the process moved quickly and smoothly. We signed the contract on December 4th and install was February 28th. The paperwork was painless both for Nova Solar and all the paperwork for the local electric company, etc. Nova's project manager helped with all the required paperwork for grants, hookups, permits, etc. He made it so easy. The install was also painless and took only 4 hours. We liked that all the install workers were Nova Solar employees. They don't use subcontractors. They have an amazing install truck organized with all they might need. No delays, no issues. The employees are very professional and very nice to work with. If you ask questions, you quickly realize the breadth of their experience. After the install, our program manager provided us with all the paperwork we would need for grants and approval to connect to the local electric company. It was all very well organized and straightforward. We have been on solar now for over 3 full months and the performance of our system has been excellent! I very highly recommend Nova Solar. Working with Nova Solar was a very smooth process. Other companies I talked to had sales people blowing smoke. What really set Nova Solar apart was their ability to answer all my questions, including many technical ones. I even had a friend of a friend who owns a solar company in another state review the Nova Solar proposal and Nova Solar unknowingly convinced him their proposal was better than what he would have proposed and he confirmed their price was very good. After purchasing my solar array from ADT solar of Virginia, which went out of business shortly after installation, we were in need of support services as our gateway stopped working. I called Nova solar and left a message with a short description of our issue and LB returned my call shortly thereafter. Enphase had replaced the defective part with the new one. The problem was how to install it and to initialize it. This is where Nova Solar Inc. and LB, technician, really stepped up and help me out. The gateway was changed out and the initialization of the gateway was started. LB stayed on the phone with me for an hour and a half with Enphase technical support. Enphase and LB got all 43 micro-inverters transferred to the new gateway and initialized. It was an absolute pleasure working with Nova Solar Inc. and LB. You know you are in good hands when the communication is prompt and thorough. LB was the project manager and he did an excellent job keeping me informed. Trip led the installation team. Being an engineer myself, I was thoroughly impressed with how clean they maintained the work sites, their tidy cable management, custom-built shelves inside their trailer to organize everything etc. I got to go up the roof to see the installation, and it was really good! I got my system turned on just a few days ago and so far the system is performing well with no issues (took about a month after installation to receive permission to operate from PEPCO)!Posted on Google

Brian Peldunas27 December 2024It has been three months since our NOVA Solar solar power array (16 panels, 384W per panel max throughput) became active, and life is electrically better. $16 a month electric bills, with some credits “in the bank.” The entire process with NOVA was excellent. We had four bids, which we narrowed to two, and then to NOVA alone, based on our needs and our desire to work with a local installer. The contract preliminaries and discussions went smoothly, as you would expect with a knowledgeable team. Being an engineer (not electrical), I asked many questions, and my questions were answered with respect and with detail (no “dumb customer” attitude). Installation followed (one day on site) and it became clear that this was a team who knew their stuff, and who enjoyed what they did. Follow up questions were answered quickly, and all post-installation details (interconnect, billing, documentation, SREC submission, etc.) were all accomplished with no issues. All of the bids were competitive with what our research had indicated. NOVA’s bid was a few percent higher than the others, but we felt the local knowledge they had, and the support for a local business we would show, was well worth the extra dollars. As one of the team said, “we try to be competitive, but we want to be the best!” We have two neighbors who also used NOVA, and their experiences (over five plus total years) have been the same. We got a couple other estimates from companies that go door to door. Not only was NoVa about half the cost, but the local, small business touch they bring was refreshing and put my mind at ease about the project. They were 0% pushy about the project and didn’t try to upsell on “panel box upgrades” or other unnecessary items. Actually, they brought my panel up to code just as part of the process - because that was the right thing to do. One of the owners did our install and as he was winding down the project, he relayed their mindset “treat our customer’s projects and homes as if they are ours,” and you can tell. When I was first soliciting quotes for an install, they were the only company to actually respond and get back to me with a quote. Most others were unreachable, or would not call back when they said they would. Throughout the process they were easy to reach or got back to me quickly. They patiently and knowledgeably answered the many questions that I had. It's obvious that their whole staff is knowledgable, as I spoke with several over the course of the project. All staff were professional and friendly. My quote was reasonably priced, and even though it expired by the time I was ready to move forward (I had a new electrical panel installed first, which took some time), they honored the original quote. I felt like they were looking out for my best interests as they managed everything I needed to sign up for (net metering, SRECs, federal and county tax forms). At the end of the project I was presented with an organized directory of everything related to my system. During the actual install, I felt like they took care to install the equipment as they would at their own home. I'm usually a stickler about something every time I have a contractor do work at my house, but I had no complaints. The system looks great, and seems well designed. Nova Solar has been a champ in every respect. They answered all our questions, offered options, and adapted as our energy needs changed when we bought an electric car. The panels, installed on time, look great. We’re so grateful they took care of all the carport EV charger details for us. Given the variability of weather, we are satisfied with how our power production measures up to Nova Solar estimates. During the switch-over (it takes time for Dominion Power to complete the process) we had a ton of questions. Nova Solar always responded quickly, professionally, and with a good attitude. Once we signed the contract they exceeded even those high expectations. They are very professional and communicate well. We knew exactly what was going on with our project at all time. Steven Schooner3 September 2023We found the folks at Nova Solar, Inc. to be a pleasure to work with😊, and we strongly recommend them. Our first full month of data is primarily from the July, when days are significantly longer than most (and there weren't a lot of dreary, rainy days). Over our first full month of data, the panels generated more than 1,700 kWh, with a few days of generating more than 80 kWh per day (!!!) and a peak of 86 kWh (which appears to be somewhat of an outlier). Looking ahead, all of the paperwork suggests that we'll be enjoying a significant tax credit next Spring. I haven't completely figured out the Virginia Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) regime yet, but any cash that the panels generate (or any portion of the initial investment they recoup), so much the better.Posted on Google

Craig Mulderig12 April 2023Kodie came to my house today to install a panel that couldn’t be installed on the day of the original install. Personally it took forever as me the homeowner to get the electrical service moved out of the way due to red tape. I contacted Kodie and boom 4 days later it is done. Not only did he install the panel but two other panels looked crooked to him from the install. He wasn’t having that so he lined them up so they looked perfect. Totally appreciated that because I am very OCD like he is and details like this are one of many reasons why I wouldn’t recommend any other company in the Hampton Roads to install solar on a new customers home. This review would honestly have to be a book to list all the fine details of the entire process that Barkley and his team made very easy to understand with zero frustration. I searched everywhere for a solar company, through dozens in fact; all of which made me feel as if I was just dollar signs to them, and they seemed somewhat shady. Nova Solar did not make me feel that way at all. They were knowledgeable, up front, and honest the whole way through. They were super professional, friendly, easy to work with, and their care and attention to detail is impeccable. Nova Solar even took the time to hide all the wiring in the attic (which most solar companies charge more for). Nova Solar installers actually told me they would treat my home as it was their own, and they absolutely did. Solar is going up all over my neighborhood, but my home has the cleanest install of them all. Everyone else has metal conduit across their roofs or down the entire side of their home (or both) from the attic down to the outside meter; I don't. My solar array done by Nova Solar by looks better by far than any install I've seen in my neighborhood. Nova Solar is an awesome company, and the best part, they're local to Northern VA, and they do not subcontract out anything; it's all in house. Gregory Bissonette16 March 2023What a fantastic company. We had a unique situation and still wanted to add solar to our yard. Most companies wouldn't even get past their automatic google/satellite image before rejecting us as potential clients. Nova Solar took the time to listen to our project description, work through some options and found solutions for every issue. They got us the solar system we wanted, and now we have this awesome backyard solar pavilion; generating electricity and creating a shaded backyard hangout spot. We just passed out first megawatt hour production and look forward to many more to come. As a company, Nova Solar does not work the 'hard sell' that a lot of companies do. They're open, thoughtful, creative, honest and direct. They're also very accessible, and answered many emails and phone calls with questions throughout. I'll circle back in a few months once I finish the landscaping beneath it to post photos, but it truly is excellent. Nova Solar coordinated with 3rd party companies, worked through the permitting seamlessly and handled all aspects of the paperwork, from start to finish: even giving clear directions to set up the SREC accounts. Doug Toombs21 February 2023I basically never write online reviews, but really needed to do one for Trip and the whole team at Nova Solar - they were absolutely amazing! There is a LOT of push in the solar space to try to acquire clients, so as a result there are a plethora of vendors out there who are not high quality. I experienced everything when I started looking - responses in broken english, proposals that had a price-per-watt way above industry norms, etc. Nova Solar was absolutely the complete opposite. Everything about the initial proposal and configuration process was very straightforward and I got clear answers to my questions. Pricing was competitive per-watt based on national averages. And the contracting, paperwork, and project management processes along the way were top notch. It was great to see that the person I first started talking with (Trip) was actually on my roof the day of the installation, making sure everything was done just right. Tim Bach17 January 2023I could not be happier with both the process of working with Nova Solar (LB as our PM specifically) or the end result. From the very beginning of the quote process, they were incredibly helpful with my many questions, and ultimately designed a system that fit as many panels as possible in our space to maximize output. The entire design, permitting, and approval process was handled by LB with minimal effort required from me, and he kept us updated every step of the way. On installation day, he and the team were amazing, and the installation went very quickly, even though they were also installing monitoring hardware and working in a very tightly packed electrical panel. The final approval and turning on of the system were equally smooth, and everything immediately worked. Despite going operational in a time of year with minimal sun, we've already seen several days where we are net-positive generation or close to it. As part of the wrap up, LB also sent us several pictures of the installation and final system, which was a nice touch that means I won't have to get out a ladder to satisfy my curiosity later. Thanks to LB and the whole team - if we ever try to expand the system or move somewhere else in the future, I would work with them again without question!Posted on Google

Continuous communication throughout the process prevents you from having to guess what's going on during design, permitting, scheduling the install and inspections and receiving necessary follow up files. Although I spoke with several of their personnel, one person was designated as point of contact to guide you through it all. The installation was extremely efficient; a half dozen men working like a well oiled machine. Very impressive. They are very customer oriented and responsive. We think this was a small job for them but they sure did not act as such. They told us ahead of time what we could expect and when. They were responsive to our questions prior to selection, provided regular updates throughout the process, and handled all the administrative documentation for the state, county, utility, and HOA. The Nova Solar team provided all of the documentation for the various incentives, pre-filled all but the personal identification and signatures. This was provided with a convenient online directory documenting the entire project. As we were gathering estimates from various installers, Nova Solar’s proposal was both competitively priced and based on realistic assumptions about the prospective system’s output. The installation itself was smooth and efficient; the crew arrived as scheduled at 6:00 sharp and completed the installation by 11:00 a.m., while being careful not to leave any messes either inside or outside the house. They were one of several quotes that I received. What caught my eye was the inclusion of a mockup of the panels on my actual roof (curiously, no other company did this). It allowed me to see exactly what I was getting into. After reaching out over the phone, one of the co-owners of the company ran through the financials with me including the incentives and the process of a solar loan. I hadn't committed to anything at that point, so taking the time to answer my questions was a very positive experience. After selecting Nova Solar, my contact was extremely responsive via email. He provided me with heads up when he was going to be stopping by for site inspections, etc. He and his crew were always punctual, never giving me a time frame but an actual exact time of arrival! They were also one of the few that were very responsive prior to selecting a company.Posted on BBBRichard F22 March 2021When I decided to install solar panels at our Fairfax county home, I had several criteria for the company I would select: technical expertise; locally owned; a good reputation; and a company that did the design and installation itself, and did not contract out the design or installation. Nova Solar clearly met all these criteria. I found that they are a local company, not a franchise, in business for many years, with an excellent reputation. My first phone conversation with Barklie was quite long. I had already looked at the technical specifications for the panels and inverters Nova Solar used, and those that other companies used. I asked many technical questions about the hardware they offered, what specifically he recommended for our house and why, what my other options were, etc. It was clear to me from this conversation with Barklie that he had a very in-depth knowledge of solar equipment, the installation process, and the process of getting a solar system approved by the county. I was also assured that Nova Solar employees would be doing the design and installation of the system. Jake, our project manager kept me informed of the progress with the design, and the status of the permit application. A last-minute change in the position of the panels to accommodate a sun tunnel was easily accommodated. The installation went very smoothly, and was completed in less than a day. All my questions about the electrical connections, location of wires, and the monitoring system were answered in detail. A few questions came up after the system started to produce energy. My e-mails to Jake were all answered very promptly and to my complete satisfaction. All the people at Nova Solar are very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. I have been very satisfied by the system they installed, and have no hesitation in recommending Nova Solar to anyone interested in solar energy for their home.Load more
